Shaykh Dr Haroon Sidat

Shaykh Dr Haroon Sidat is the director of the academy and a dedicated seeker and teacher of knowledge. He memorised the Qur’an at a young age, followed by a rigorous training in the classic Islamic sciences, known as the Dars-i Nizami. Alongside his religious studies, he holds a first-class degree in Economics and Finance, an MA in Mathematics, and a PGCE in Education.

  A former consultant for a leading global firm and has extensive experience in economics and the social sciences. He completed his PhD in 2019 and has been undertaking research on Muslims in Britain in particular though his interests range from theology, philosophy, fiqh, spirituality, intellectual history, among others.

What is knowledge (ʿilm)? How do human beings know what they know? What is the role of reason (ʿaql), revelation (waḥy), sense perception, and testimony (khabar) in acquiring knowledge? Drawing from kalām, falsafa, and Sufi traditions, we will engage with competing theories of certainty (yaqīn), doubt (shakk), and illumination (kashf), considering the tensions and synergies between rationalism and spirituality.
