Garments of Love: Weaving a Marriage of Mercy.

It was not in the stars, nor chance, that we met,
But in the Qadr of Allah, so perfectly set.
Two hearts once distant, now gently aligned,
In the script of the heavens, our souls were signed.
You are not just flesh, nor am I just a name—
We are garments of love, in a sacred flame.
Covered in mercy, stitched by prayer,
A union that angels pause to stare.
In Islam, marriage between two individuals is considered a significant cosmic event. When we enter this commitment freely, we agree to share our lives with another soul. God gave us a yearning for intimacy and companionship, just as He created Eve, or Ḥawwāʾ, from Ādam’s body. The feminine essence is inherently part of the masculine. Thus, marriage fulfils our fundamental human need for companionship and establishes a family united by blood. This union is essential for the continuation of humanity; on a spiritual level, children serve as extensions of our existence. We earn rewards in the afterlife by raising righteous children who live on after us. Moreover, we require connections with other people to create a functioning society and evolve as a civilisation. Therefore, marriage stands as the essential cornerstone of a flourishing civilisation.
Like any other social relationship, marriage demands careful and affectionate nurturing. It faces various challenges. For example, while culture can be beneficial, it may impede marital success without a foundation in Prophetic guidance. Navigating gender roles and acknowledging their distinct characteristics also presents difficulties. Moreover, the confusion between an idealised view of marriage, often influenced by the media, and a practical perspective that combines Prophetic teachings with real-life experiences adds complexity. Even religious advice can lead to misunderstandings if not comprehended deeply and clearly. I frequently advise believers who perceive Islam merely as a set of dos and don’ts. In reality, it is not that simplistic. Islam represents a living tradition aimed at obedience to the One True God and selfless service to others. In conclusion, true success and happiness come from striving to please one another, which requires dedication and a Prophetic spirit of serving others, known as khidmah.
